Short Term Disability Insurance helps replace a portion of your income if you become ill or injured, on or off the job, and can't work. It also pays benefits if you return to work but are unable to make your full, pre-disability income.
How long could you afford to be without a paycheck? That's a question every working person should consider. Short Term Disability Insurance is an affordable way to ensure that if employees are sick or injured and are unable to work, employees have a consistent source of income, and just as important – peace of mind. Coverage can be either voluntary or employer sponsored.
In addition to the core disability benefits, optional riders are also available to enhance the coverage. The employer would select which riders to add. The riders include: Wellness and Preventive Care, Emergency Room, Hospital Admission, Outpatient Surgery, Rehabilitation Services, Accidental Death, Term Life and Elimination Period Waiver.
Studies show that most working adults have no savings set aside for emergencies* and missing just one week of pay could cause a setback**. While many believe that sick leave and vacation time can be used to cover expenses during a disability, the fact is 3 in 10 people with disabling illnesses or injuries are out of work for three months or more, and the benefits from sick leave and vacation time usually run out in a matter of weeks.***
